Histori
Prior to the creation of the company, Jamba Juice was a "senior project" completed by Kirk Perron, cyclists and advocates of a healthy lifestyle, at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly). Jamba Juice was founded on March 31, 1990 by Perron, who opened his first store in San Luis Obispo, California. He joined the business with three friends: Kevin Peters, Joe Vergara, and Linda Ozawa Olds. It was entered in 1990 as Juice Club, Inc. in San Luis Obispo.
Jamba Juice acquires all stores of Zuka Juice, Inc. nationwide in October 2001. Zuka Juice was founded in Orem, Utah, by Dave Duffin and also a leading smoothie company at the time. The first locations in New York are at Columbus Circle and 59th Street in the Time Warner Center basement and are part of the Whole Foods Market seating area. Other locations include one south of Union Square, Times Square, Tribeca, and one at the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
On August 14, 2003, Jamba Juice agreed to be acquired by Services Acquisition Corp. International for $ 265 million. A special-purpose acquisition company, Acquisition Services is led by Steven Berrard, former CEO of Blockbuster Inc. Upon closing of the transaction, the Acquisition of Publicly traded Services changes its name to Jamba, Inc.
In June 2006, Jamba, Inc. announced that it has completed a $ 35.0 million conversion preferred stock transaction. Convertible preferred stock becomes redeemable by Jamba, Inc. on buyer selection in June 2016 unless previously converted and includes an annual dividend of 8%. Preferred shares can be converted into common stock at a price of $ 1.15 per share.
This funding is led by a $ 19.55 million investment by Mistral Equity Partners, a private equity fund focused on consumer products and service companies, with the remaining $ 15.45 million invested by a company controlled by the Serruya Family, a Canadian-based successful family entrepreneurship who founded Yogen FrÃÆ'üz frozen yogurt and smoothie chain. "We are very excited about Jamba and the potential growth opportunities available to the company as it expands the brand through licensing and franchising opportunities," said Andrew Heyer, managing partner of Mistral Equity Partners. "This transaction completes our focus exclusively on investing in consumer businesses with a strong management team that leverages emerging demographic or psychographic trends."
In December 2008, Jamba embarked on a strategic move to transform companies from smoothie stores to include line wraps, sandwiches, salads, and flatbreads. Jamba currently has more than 750 locations in 26 countries across the US and a small number of international outlets.
In July 2009, in promoting its new product line, Jamba Juice was criticized for running an ad campaign depicted as a "ripoff" of cartoonist David Rees. The ad campaign looks similar to the Rees "Get Your War On" series. Rees was told about Jamba Juice ads by a fan who sent in a letter. Rees stated that "Jamba Juice bites my style, without credit, and it's a bit rude."
In May 2016, Jamba Juice announced the move from its corporate headquarters from Emeryville, California to Frisco, Texas, for a period of 6 months and affecting 120 employees, citing the high cost of living and doing business in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Product expansion
In December 2007, it was announced that Jamba would partner with NestlÃÆ'à © to lend his name to a line of well-prepared drinkable beverages under the Jamba brand; they will offer two different products: smoothies and juices. On December 19, 2008, a press release from Nestle USA and Jamba Juice announced the suspension of Jamba ready-made products because "... challenges... with manufacturing consistently, resulting in inventory and out-of-stock issues."
In 2014, Jamba Juice launches an expanded Fresh Juice menu, and starts making juice mixes to order with fresh ingredients such as kale, beets, and ginger.
Innovation Bar
On November 16, 2015, Jamba, Inc. announced the construction of their first concept store, called Jamba Juice Innovation Bar . Located in the center of Old Pasadena, Innovation Bar replaces their nineteenth store, which is roughly doubled to three times the size of a regular Jamba Juice store. Along with the usual presentation of smoothies, this location also sells many other foods, including quinoa bowls, artisan toasted veggie toast, homemade potato chips, and vegan food. It is also the first location to provide a dining room with Wi-Fi where customers can watch when their drinks are prepared, or meet other customers. Matt Kafka, who is Senior Operations Director at Jamba, described it as "a cool and trendy place in Southern California". Inside, customers are greeted with the art of mirrored walls with photographs of various fruits, a set of television screens featuring various greeting video gestures, and what Barbara Bestor, store architect, describes as "contemporary design". Jamba opened the Innovation Bar on July 14, 2016, during the ceremonial ribbon cutting at 10:00 PDT. In early January 2017, the store was suddenly closed to the public. Jamba has not made any comments regarding store closures.
