-30 - has been used traditionally by journalists in North America to show the end of a story. Usually found at the end of press release. There are many theories about how that use occurs, e.g. of the use of that number in 92 telegraphic stegraphic codes to mark the end of transmission in the era of the American Civil War. It is included in the Associated Press Phillips Code shortcuts and short marks for general use. It's typically used when writing on deadlines and sending bits at a time to type in, as the way it takes to indicate the end of the article.
In Quebec, a journal of journalism published by FÃÆ' à © ÃÆ'çÃÆ' professionÃ, ration professionnelle des journalistes du QuÃÆ' © bec is called -trente - , the French word for thirty.
