The Hyundai Genesis (Korea: ????? ) is a luxury four-door sedan, five-seater, rear-wheel-drive manufactured and marketed by Hyundai since 2008 and now in its second generation.
It was introduced in concept form at the 2007 New York International Auto Show and was internally designated as a BH model. It is estimated that it will cost $ 533 million to develop. Hyundai started marketing the first generation Genesis worldwide (with the exception of Europe) in 2008, as a "premium sport sedan".
The second generation Genesis (internally designated as a DH model) debuted in Seoul, Korea in November 2013 followed by the International Automotive exhibition of North America and Toronto 2014. It is marketed worldwide.
The name Genesis reflects Hyundai's first revenue into the luxury market segment.
On November 4, 2015, Hyundai officially announced the Genesis brand will be split into Genesis Motors, the new luxury vehicle division for Hyundai. The leap into the luxurious, luxurious luxury brand comes on the heels marked a success in the luxury market, paired with consumer demand for the Genesis name. Hyundai Genesis was rebranded in 2017 as Genesis G80 .

Development and design
Introduced in March 2007 as the "Genesis Concept", this sedan was designed by Hyundai as "a progressive interpretation of the modern rear-wheel drive sport sedan". Hyundai fabricated the idea for Genesis in 2003. The body design took three years and the total program cost was $ 500 million over a 23-month development period. Reliability test is valid for 800,000 miles.
Hyundai reportedly compares the BMW 5 Series sedan (E60) during the Genesis development; the company's press release shows the Genesis body in white color exceeds BMW in torsional stiffness by 14%. Genesis production of the sedan received a five star accidents rating in each category of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Hyundai is marketing the Genesis as offering "BMW 5-Series performance and 7-Series interior packaging at a 3-Series price".
Reviewing Genesis 4.6 on US introduction, automotive journalist Dan Neil called the absence of brand emblems in front of Genesis "a move that undermines the grammar of luxury".

Marketing
The full production version went on sale in South Korea on January 8, 2008 in Hyundai's home market, South Korea. Notably, the Korean Genesis market does not carry the Hyundai badges, only the 'Genesis' symbol.
Hyundai has been criticized by Korean consumers over price differences between the US and Korean markets. Yonhap reported the Genesis fee "? 58.3 million (US $ 57,000) in Korea, while in the US it sold for $ 32,000." This has led to accusations of dumping and growing markets in Genesises that are reacted by gray market dealers. The Korean regulator is currently investigating whether Hyundai has abused 75% of its domestic market share. However, Hyundai cars in South Korea have more options available and that may be the reason for the mark-up.
Marketed as Hyundai Genesis in the US and Canada, this vehicle is the largest and strongest car ever marketed Hyundai there before the launch of Equus.
The Genesis sedan went on sale in the US in August 2008. In the first five months of its sale, Genesis was lacking in a competitive US market selling only 6,167 units. According to Hyundai, Genesis saw sales of only 1,297 units in its first full-month sales and the company is expected to move about 8,000 units from US showrooms by the end of 2008. In 2009, Genesis sold 21,889 units in the US (combined sedan and coupe).
There is an internal discussion within Hyundai about creating a separate brand to showcase Genesis sedans as well as coming soon Equus sedans in North America, but due to the expensive costs and potential delays Genesis and Equus remain marked with the Hyundai brand until 2016 By the end of 2016, the Genesis brand became detached from Hyundai in United States of America.
Sold as Hyundai Rohens in China, the opening was at the Beijing International Automotive Fair, 2008. Sales began in August 2008.
The incident was not marketed initially in Europe because of Lexus's failure to flourish in Europe. According to a September 2007 article at Tradingmarkets.com, "in the eyes of European luxury vehicle buyers, Hyundai sedans are considered to have poor image and unreliable durability compared to its competitors." "The planned Genesis launch comes at a time when Hyundai is trying to unleash its bad brand image, known for its generous assurance and low price."
The latest events will be sold in Europe, priced around EUR65,000 in Germany.
Events are sold in Latin America in Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Chile and Peru, offering versions with 3.3 and 3.8 liter engines, and in Brazil only with 3.8 liter engines.
Australia is the first country in the region to receive the Genesis sedan, which arrives in November 2014.
Coupe
A rear-wheel drive sports car from Hyundai, dubbed Hyundai Genesis Coupe and sharing platform and name Genesis Sedan, was launched at the 2008 New York International Automotive Exhibition.
Awards
The Genesis sedan has received many awards and recognition. Among them:
