The walk-in clinic describes a broad category of medical facilities that are only loosely defined as clinics that receive patients walk-in and without the necessary appointments. A number of health care providers are included in walk-in clinic umbrellas including urgent care centers, retail clinics and even many free clinics or community health clinics. Clinic walks offer the advantage of being accessible and often inexpensive. But among the negative aspects is that the clinic runs providing poor health services compared to professional health care such as doctors and regular hospitals. Other losses may include urgency to make patient visits as quickly as possible to reduce long waiting lists in the clinic, which may fail to meet the purpose of the visit.
It is estimated that there are nearly 11,000 clinics running in the United States, although it is impossible to calculate the exact number given by variable and unclear category properties. The emergency care center is the largest percentage of road clinics in America with an estimated 9,000 locations worldwide. In fact, consumers often incorrectly refer to all clinics running as urgent care centers, and vice versa. Retail Clinic is the most common in the industry with 1,443 locations as of July 1, 2013.

Services
Emergency care clinics are usually led by doctors. A much smaller category of retail clinics, a self-contained clinic located within a large retail store or shopping center, tends to be led by nurse practitioners. Significantly higher prices for urgent care visits compared to retail clinic visits are mostly due to differences in staff.
All types of clinics running provide basic medical services, such as routine vaccinations, flu and flu symptoms, and treatment for less severe physical injuries. Emergency care centers usually provide more services, such as an X-ray test for suspected pneumonia or fractures.
Access to the patient's regular medical record depends on the agreement the clinic has with other organizations. For example, a walking clinic that is part of or affiliated with a larger hospital or clinic may have full access to all medical records belonging to a larger institution, while an independent walking clinic may not have access to patient records except those associated with previous visits to the clinic goes that way. This lack of access can prevent healthcare providers from recognizing chronic problems.

Controversy
The existence of a walking clinic has become controversial. Doctors recognize that Minute Clinics and other retail-based clinics are comfortable. They acknowledge that clinics cut their own income. However, doctors say they try to build relationships with their patients, meet them on a regular basis, and follow up the problem. Clinics interfere with that relationship and divide health care. Furthermore, said pediatrician Claire McCarthy, "Sometimes small things are not so small." The clinic does not have a patient's medical record, and does not know its history. A swollen knee, if it is part of the pattern, may be a sign of arthritis. The American Academy of Pediatrics has recommended that parents not use retail-based clinics for their children.
