Averitt Express is a private transportation and supply chain management company based in Cookeville, Tennessee. The company was incorporated as Livingston Merchant's Co-op in 1958 and incorporated as Averitt Express in 1969. Averitt is owned by Gary Sasser, who bought the company from its original owner, Thurman Averitt, in October 1971 at the age 20. At the time of purchase of Sasser, Averitt operates 3 trucks and 5 trailers. In 2015, the company claims to be "one of the nation's leading cargo transportation and supply chain providers".
