The Montgomery-ÃÆ'... sberg Depression Assessment Scale ( MADRS ) is a ten-item diagnostic questionnaire used by psychiatrists to measure the severity of depressed episodes in patients with mood disorders. It was designed in 1979 by British and Swedish researchers in addition to the Hamilton Assessment Scale for Depression (HAMD) that would be more sensitive to changes brought by antidepressants and other forms of treatment than the Hamilton Scale. Nevertheless, there is a high-level statistical correlation between scores on two measures.
