Doppio - Wikipedia

Doppio espresso is a double shot, extracted using multiple coffee filters in portafilter. This produces 60 ml of drink, double the amount of one espresso coffee. More commonly called a double standard, it is standard in assessing the quality of espresso in a barista competition. Doppio is an Italian multiplier, meaning "double".

An espresso shot, on the other hand, is called solo ("single") and is developed because it is the maximum amount that can practically be extracted on an espresso machine lever. Today Doppio is a standard shot, and because solos need different filter baskets, solo shots are often generated by making ("pull") doppio in a two-hole portafilter, but only catching one stream (other streams may be discarded or used in other beverages ).
