Plot

Rahul Mithaiwala is an orphan who lives in Mumbai. Raised by his grandparents from the age of eight, Rahul's grandfather had a chain of candy shops. Before the celebration of his grandfather's 100th birthday, two of Rahul's friends invited him to accompany them on holiday to Goa, which he received. Grandfather Rahul died on the eve of the festival, just as he watched Sachin Tendulkar on TV in cricket matches dismissed in the 99th race. His grandmother told Rahul that his grandfather wanted his ashes divided into two parts - one each to be immersed into Ganga and Rameswaram. He asks Rahul to take ashes to Rameswaram and disperse them. Reluctantly, he accepted his request but also wanted to attend the Goa trip.

Rahul and his friends plan to throw ashes at Goa but his grandmother wants to see him go, forcing Rahul to travel by train. He booked a ticket on Chennai Express, planning to meet his friends along the way, at Kalyan Junction station. However, Rahul forgot to take the ashes, and he almost missed the train when he returned to pick it up. When he tried to leave the train, he saw a young woman running to the board. She helped him and four others on a moving train, but the train left the station before he could get off.

Rahul tries to seduce the woman, who begins to communicate by singing a parody of Hindi movie songs, and explains that the four men are trying to kidnap her. Rahul lent his cell phone so he could call his friends, but the men who took him took it and dumped it off the train. Rahul was annoyed, but did not say anything because the men were carrying weapons. Rahul tells the Ticket Inspector about them, but they push the inspector to the river under the bridge. Panic, Rahul finds out that the man is his cousin, and that his name is Meenalochni "Meena" Azhagusundaram. He escaped from a forced marriage to a Tangaballi ruffian. His father, Durgeshwara Azhagusundaram was a powerful local mafia chief in Tamil Nadu.

Meena took Rahul to his father and introduced him as his lover. Tangaballi challenged Rahul to a duel that Rahul did not know, because of his lack of knowledge in Tamil. On the night of the duel, Rahul flees with the help of a local policeman, Shamsher, but he ends up on board with terrorists and Sri Lankan smugglers. There was a gun battle between the police and the terrorists. When the police officers investigate and take Rahul into custody, he tells his story and ends up in Komban.

Frightened and once again surrounded by Azhagusundaram's minions, Rahul pretends to take the Meena hostage and flees with him in his father's car, against the Azhagasundaram people. When the car breaks down, Rahul and Meena fight and separate. Rahul, not knowing where to go, back to Meena, who took him to Vidhamba village. Meena tells the villagers that they are married couples who need protection and rest, which are approved by the villagers.

Meena then realizes that she has fallen in love with Rahul. When Rahul plans to slip away, he argues, not wanting to gain the villagers' confidence. Tangaballi catches Rahul as he tries to leave, but the villagers help them escape again. Meena persuades Rahul to disperse his grandfather's ashes and walks with him to Rameswaram, where they complete the rites. On the way back, Rahul realizes that he has fallen in love with Meena, and does not tell where they are going. She takes Meena back to her father and tries to get her to understand and respect her daughter's wishes. She also tells Meena that she loves him.

Rahul tells Tangaballi and his thugs that he is ready to fight this time. In the ensuing battle, Rahul was severely injured but emerged victorious. The Reformation of Azhagusundaram and Tangaballi, accepts that the love of an ordinary man like Rahul is greater than his physical ability and political influence. Azhagusundaram allows Rahul to marry Meena. Rahul then left a message that love does not recognize regional or language barriers and that with a strong heart, there is no limit to what ordinary people can achieve.

Development and transmission

Mayank and Rohit Shetty originally planned to work with Shah Rukh Khan to make the 1982 film back, Angoor . After blockbuster 2011 Singham , Shetty started writing the script of the movie but left it half-finished. The script Chennai Express is ready for Khan as a backup, due to the difficulty of getting the filming date of the actor. After reading the script, Khan liked the idea and agreed to star it before the Angoor remake, causing the Angoor remake to be suspended. Shetty said the film was "a hard-core commercial film with a romantic angle. The story of this person's journey from Mumbai to Rameshwaram and what happened during the trip." About 68 minutes of recording was upgraded with CGI by Reliance MediaWorks.

Khan was the first actor to be approached by the script and was the first major actor to be signed for the film. Rohit Shetty stated that despite the title, Khan will not play South India in the movie. Casting the main hero is the subject of press speculation; Kareena Kapoor, Asin and Deepika Padukone are reportedly involved. Shetty denied the rumor, stating that the players will be completed in April 2012, and that she will portray an established actress in the role. In October 2012, it was confirmed that Deepika Padukone had been signed to play the female lead opposite Khan, and photographs showing Padukone and Khan shoots were released. This is Padukone's second film contrary to Khan, with whom he made his Bollywood debut in the 2007 blockbuster movie Om Shanti Om. Starting with the film, which was released on Women's Day, Khan wants to have his female star's name appear on his own on credit.

Sathyaraj was instrumental in playing the role of Padukone's father father, making his debut in Bollywood. The Priyamani actress was signed in January 2013 for the item number in the movie. Other personalities of the Tamil cinema, including Delhi Ganesh and Mohan Raman, appear in small roles. The film was originally titled Ready Steady Po . However, to emphasize on connections with South India, the film is titled as Chennai Express with the title planned to be used as a tagline.

Filming and post-production

Filming on the project begins at Mehboob Studio in Mumbai on October 5, 2012. additional shooting takes place at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus train station with a minimum crew. The photos of the main actors were released unofficially in mid-October 2012. In November 2012, the cast and crew went to Goa to begin filming the scene set there. Vasco Da Gama Railway Station is used to describe as Kalyan Junction railway station. The romantic scene on the passing train next to Dudhsagar Falls was also shot. In December 2012, the crew went to Jakarta to film certain scenes.

In January 2013, the photoshoot should be scheduled to take place in Ooty, but since Khan feels that Ooty is too far from Mumbai, some locations from Ooty are reconstructed on the outskirts of Panchgani in Wai by art director Narendra Ruharikar. It took more than 40 days and INR 15 million to build the required set. Filming on Wai spends the entire month of March 2013. The 10-day shooting schedule in Munnar, Kerala, begins in mid-April 2013; scenes filmed in Devikulam Lake, Meesapulimala, Wagavara and Kannimala. The filming was suspended for several days due to heavy rain, so the schedule was slightly extended until the end of the same month. A press conference was held in Munnar. In May 2013, the scene was filmed in North Goa. Padukone finished firing on May 25, 2013. Khan flew to Hyderabad in May 2013 to film the remaining scenes. The film has several Tamil dialogs, but to maintain context, no subtitle is used.

Chennai Express is produced by Gauri Khan, Karim Morani, Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur under the banner of Red Chillies Entertainment. It was released internationally by UTV Motion Pictures.

Soundtrack

The score of Chennai Express was compiled by Amar Mohile; songs composed by duo Vishal-Shekhar, and the lyrics written by Amitabh Bhattacharya and Yo Yo Honey Singh. The track record begins at the end of October 2012. The song "Ready Steady Po" is recorded in November 2012 by a music composer. Some sources say that directors and actors are not satisfied with the score. Directors are reportedly asked to plan different musical compositions. However, the composer denied this rumor. In mid-April 2013, singer S. P. Balasubrahmanyam recorded the song title for the film, marking his return to Bollywood for screenings after a fifteen year absence. He said the song celebrates the spirit of togetherness. Initially, Balasubrahmanyam was very apprehensive, but chose to sing because of the content and direction of the film. The song "1 2 3 4 up on the dance floor" was released as a promotional single on World Music Day. On June 27, 2013, the promo video of the song "Titli" was released, and on July 11, 2013, the promo video "Kashmir Main Tu Kanyakumari" was released. Devesh Sharma of Filmfare gave the album 4/5, saying it was "a powerful offering, full of new sounds and surprises", and that Vishal-Shekhar is trying hard to bring the best for the movie. IBN Live gave the album 3.5/5 and stated that the album was another "winner" from Vishal-Shekhar. Composers are critically praised for blending various forms of music that "compact" the usual Bollywood music.

"He writes that it's" likely to appeal to music lovers of all age groups and sentiments "and calls it" [a] n entertaining all-round, composers must applaud for incorporating different music and beat to add to the vibrant spirit of Bollywood Music. "

Joginder Tuteja from Rediff.com gave the album 3/5 and wrote that the title song, "Chennai Express", is "just about average". He expressed his displeasure over the tone of Balasubramaniam's voice to Shah Rukh Khan, and said that in all the songs it was not unusual. He did, however, praise that the overall result was "satisfying" with some songs even standing out. Anand Holla from Mumbai Mirror says, "It's easy to imagine Rohish Shetty's brief short-lived director Vishal-Shekhar, which involves words like catchy, peppy, fun and, of course, hit songs. Given how happy, the soundtrack is changing, VS has given us a fair idea of what awaits us on this Eid. "

Marketing

The first display of Chennai Express is released on January 1, 2013. The title song is 31 seconds, sung by SP Balasubrahmanyam, released on May 23, 2013. The film's official trailer was released at the event in Mumbai on June 13, 2013; two days after its launch, it exceeded four million views on YouTube. The clothes worn by Khan and Padukone in the film were auctioned; the proceeds from the sale are donated to charity. The auction takes place around the day of the movie launch. The Karaoke app developed by Singbox - a Swedish game studio - was launched on August 2, 2013 for Android and iOS-based smartphones.

Khan is promoting his film on the reality TV show Comedy Night with Kapil, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, Madhubala Ek Ishq Ek Junoon , DID Super Moms , Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6 and Indian Idol Junior . Zeitgeist - Google's year-end compilation of the most frequent search queries - named Chennai Express the most trending topic of 2013 in India. The rights of satellite television movies were sold to Zee Network for INR 480 million (US $ 7.2 million). The deal is linked to box office movie revenue - the first deal of its kind in Indian cinema. If Chennai Express collects more than INR 1.3 billion (US $ 19 million), then for every INR 100 million earned after that, the producers will get an additional INR 20 million. The film has its first televised premiere on October 20, 2013, and is seen by a large number of viewers, almost double the highest measured fictional show. This helps its broadcaster, Zee TV, to reach the top spot among the month's Entertainment Channels.

Legal issues

Along with Once Upon ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara! , Chennai Express was initially abandoned by Pakistan distributors and exhibitors because four Pakistani films were released on the same day. The release dates are each postponed until 15 and 9 August. During Wai's filming schedule, the film unit got into trouble for using too much water from Dam Dhom, in the drought-stricken Satara district of Maharashtra. State aid and rehabilitation minister, Patangrao Kadam, handles this issue.

Movie posters and trailers, released on Twitter and YouTube, were criticized by some Tamil media for their portrayal of the Tamil ethos. They say that the highly accented Padukone dialogue resembles the Malayalee accent rather than the Tamil accent. Padukone defended the film, saying that the film did not parody South Indian culture and that most of the crew, including himself, were South Indians. He then said, "Why do we deceive our own culture?"

On July 31, 2013, the Nationalist political party, Maharashtra Navnirman, Sena's film wing threatened to disrupt the premiere of the film; it is reportedly trying to repel the ongoing popular Marathi movie from a cinema that only features one movie at a time. The party is angry with reports that Chennai Express distributors have demanded a major slot in single-screen cinema, and in multiple multiplexes, where the movie Marathi superhit Duniyadari has been popular since July 19th. On August 1, 2013, both film directors Rohit Shetty and Sanjay Jadhav were summoned by Raj Thackeray to find a solution. After listening to both parties, Thackeray decided that if Duniyadari was not removed from the state-of-the-art single screen cinema, MNS would not object to the Chennai Express release in Maharashtra. Chennai Express was released in 10 languages.
