US Route 290 (or U.S. 290 ) is a fully-located east-west US highway in the state of Texas. Currently the west terminal is on Interstate 10 near Harper, and its eastern terminal is on Interstate 610 on the northwest side of Houston. This is the main highway between Houston and Austin and is a cutoff for travelers who want to pass through San Antonio on Interstate 10.

Deskripsi rute

Fredericksburg-Johnson City

The western part of Austin, US 290 is a more scenic route through Texas Hill Country, through the cities of Fredericksburg and Johnson City, and is therefore close to the historic site connected with Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, top commander during the Pacific War (1941-45) and the late President of Texas, Lyndon Baines Johnson. East Austin, USA 290 is a divided highway that passes or near the towns of Giddings and Brenham.

Austin

In Austin, U.S. 290 runs simultaneously with Interstate 35 about 8 miles (13 km), including the Downtown Austin area, as well as the entire W. Ben White Boulevard. At various intervals, the US 290 intercepts with SH 71, RM 1826, Mopac Expressway, Capital of Texas Highway, S Lamar Boulevard, S Congress Avenue, and along the I-35 line at the same time, Sixth Street, Loop 111, and RM 2222, and US 183 , among other streets.

Houston

In Houston, US 290 is referred to as Northwest Freeway. The Texas Legislature officially set this highway in Harris County as the Ronald Reagan Memorial Highway in 2005. The US 290 is also part of the storm evacuation route. The route starts at SH 6 in Galveston. SH 6 was brought to the US 290. Then USS 290 was taken to where the two roads were separated. Then SH 6 was taken to Waco.

At Harris County outside Houston, State Highway 6 (SH 6) joins the USS 290 and two highways running simultaneously until dividing north of Hempstead.

The vast remaining of 290 US continues to be an important highway, linking Austin with Interstate 10, and from there east to Houston. A section of 290 US in Austin and near Houston is a multilateral highway. The free road stops on Interstate 610 with an exit westbound towards Interstate 10/US Highway 90.

History

The US 290 originally had an east terminal in San Antonio before 1935 when it was diverted further north and extended eastwards. The old highway to San Antonio was redesigned US 87.

Before the Interstate era, it extended nearly 300 miles (483 km) further west to the intersection with US 80 (now Interstate 20) before Interstate 10 replaced it. Many of the old routes near Sheffield become SH 290. Other alignments that are part of the state highway system include Fort Stockton and Balmorhea business routes from Interstate 10 and RM 1312 between Ozona and Sonora.

Prior to the construction of the Northwest Freeway, US $ 290 to Houston followed the Hempstead Highway, which runs parallel to the highway about half a mile to the southwest. The eastern end of US $ 290 is also about a mile to the southeast at the intersection of Hempstead Highway, Washington Avenue, and Old Katy Road. There is a small T small intersection at this intersection.

Due to its long cuts, the US 290 no longer intersects its "parent" route, US 90.

The toll road is planned along the US $ 290 segment in Houston and Austin.

In 2011 two members of the US House of Representatives, John Culberson and Michael T. McCaul, asked TxDOT to advocate for re-labeling US 290 as an interstate toll road.

Austin

At Austin, Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority Manor Expressway along US 290 from Austin to Manor, opened on May 17, 2014. Manor Expressway was signed as 290 Toll Road.

Houston

Prior to the construction of the Northwest Freeway, US $ 290 to Houston followed the Hempstead Highway, which runs parallel to the highway about half a mile to the southwest. The eastern end of US $ 290 is also about a mile to the southeast at the intersection of Hempstead Highway, Washington Avenue, and Old Katy Road. There is a small T small intersection at this intersection.

The exchange with I-610 and the first part of the front railroad opened in 1963. The first freeway section opened in 1975. In 1982, the main highway lane was completed only within Beltway 8. In 1990, the junction of the pile with the Beltway 8 is done. From 1985 to 2005, the main line outside Beltway 8 was completed.

The toll road was built with only 3 lanes in each direction, but a major investment study in 2002 requested a 5-lane expansion in every direction on Beltway 8 and 4 lanes in every direction from Beltway 8 to the proposed Grand Parkway. It is also advisable to build new toll roads along Hempstead Highway.

In Houston, the Harris County Toll Road Authority plans to build a toll-run lane along and adjacent to the 290 highway on the right, to be called the Hempstead Tollway.

This route was designated as Texas State Highway Loop 318 from US 290 to US 290 on January 18, 1960. On February 28, 1973, Part of then-SH 90 to the west became part of SH 105. It was founded on in 1990 when the mainstream USÃ, 290 was diverted along with SH 36 around the western and southern sides of Brenham. The route begins to the west of the city at the intersection with SH 36. Business routes continue east to downtown on Main Street. Before reaching the city center, the route is divided into two parallel one-way streets: Main Street which carries traffic to the west and Alamo Road which brings traffic to the east. At this junction, the business route turns south on Market Street, and continues out of Brenham, rejoining the mainstream US $ 290 near intersection with FM. 577.

The previous route, also called Loop 318, was set on April 23, 1957, as a recurrence along the old route of US 380 (now SH 6). On July 18, 1957, it became part of the FM 880 and spurred connections.
