Wedding

Clara Harris, a Colombian immigrant, was named "Mrs. Colombia Houston" and worked as a dentist. The couple married on February 14, 1992, at Nassau Bay Hilton, and raised three children, a twin boy born in 1998 and daughter of David Lindsey from a previous marriage. During his marriage to Clara, David began having an affair with his former receptionist, Gail Bridges, who later confessed to having an affair. Clara, suspicious, hired a private detective agency to spy on her husband, and on July 24, 2002, the agency told Clara that her husband was in a hotel with her mistress.

Murder and trial

On July 24, 2002, when Clara Harris went to the Hilton Hotel in Nassau Bay, Texas, to confront her husband, she reportedly attacked her husband's reserve Gail Bridges. The hotel clerk escorted Clara to her Mercedes-Benz. When David and Gail came out of the hotel, Clara hit her husband in the parking lot when her teenage step daughter sat in the passenger seat. According to the medical examiner's office, they could only confirm there was a tire mark on the body, but Lindsey Harris, stepchild, and eyewitness confirmed Clara bumped into David three times. David is dead at the scene, and Clara is accused of first-degree murder.

His trial began in February. At the trial Lindsey Harris testified against her stepmother, claiming she told him to stop the vehicle. The prosecutor claims it's more of a crime of lust, that Clara "wants to hurt her," as she heard saying in a police interview. Also introduced at the trial of Clara is the actual videotape of the crime, recorded by the detective of the Blue Moon Investigation agency outside Webster, Texas, hired by Clara when she suspects David continues to meet her lover. The video was very burdensome, because it showed him spinning his silver Mercedes around the parking lot three times, though David was not clearly visible in the video. Clara then parked her car beside her.

The defense's attempt to prove that he only bumped into David once was destroyed when the judges decided their re-creation of scenes and events by an unacceptable crime scene specialist in court. The defense attorney explains what is in the report, using a private consultant as an expert at the stand. They argued that Clara could only run over David once, and that the fingers turning her Mercedes would not let her turn sharp and hit her again. The prosecution admitted that it was a good argument, but retaliated by bringing in a police officer who had been present at the scene pointing out a fatal flaw in the defense argument: another tire track on the sidewalk is shown in a police photograph, the angle from which goes straight to where David's body has been.Clara advised not to take a stand. After witnessing the day of testimony, Clara decides she should talk, and it's hurting her case. He speaks well, but takes up the permitted position of the original interview, whose previous lawyer was unacceptable for question. It was a big blow to their argument, only a portion of Clara's recordings interviewed by the police were included in the evidence. The jury hears Clara's statement that she "wants to hurt" her husband, but not the part where she says later in the interview, "I do not want to kill her." His defense lawyer actually fainted from stress at this point in the trial. The court went to the recess and he was taken to the hospital, then released shortly afterwards. Clara argues that she does not see her husband, David, when she meets him in her car. Although the medical examiner's report stated that only one mark of the tire could be ascertained on David's body, the defense could not prove that he had not actually followed it many times.

Clara Harris was found guilty of murdering her husband and on February 14, 2003, she was sentenced to 20 years in prison and a $ 10,000 fine. Twenty years is the maximum penalty permitted by the jury's "sudden wish" findings and will be a minimum without discovering "sudden passion." Valentine's Day is Clara and David Harris's eleventh wedding anniversary.

Clara Harris was imprisoned in the Mountain View Unit in Gatesville, Texas, where she converted a school textbook into Braille for blind students. Her children, who are in custody of family friends, are said to visit about once a month. He was denied parole in his first attempt on April 11, 2013, by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles. His second parole request was rejected in September 2016. He was granted parole in November 2017.
